Playfair Family History

The Playfair connection to Valleyfair Farm reaches back over two centuries.  Lieutenant Colonel Andrew William Playfair came to British North America as an officer with the 104th Regiment of foot and served during the war of 1812.  Following the war, he settled in Tay Valley Township, where he received substantial land grants and established many mills along the Mississippi river.  The community that grew around these mills became what is now known as Playfairville, Ontario.

Andrew was also a businessman, militia officer, Metrhodist Preacher and later a member of the Legislative Assembly in Upper Canada.

Andrews brother John came to Canada and the origional farm is still in the hands of Johns decendants.   Over the years the farm has provided crops, livestock, dairy, maple products, agrigate products and lumber.  All while adhering to practices that would ensure the land can continue to provide for generations to come.  As stewarts of this land, this Valleyfair Farm, family history is not something that happened somewhere...it happened right here under our feet.
